Though ozone finds tremendous usage in medical practice, direct inhalation of ozone is not recommended. Ozone smell is an irritant and also exacerbates bronchial asthma and COPD.
Ozone inhalation by the treating clinician or assistants is not an issue in Intra articular, Intra diskal, Pain Portals, or MAHT, where the ozone is drawn into a syringe and the machine is switched off immediately.
However in insufflation procedures like vaginal, rectal, and other procedures where ozone in and out points are there, the exiting ozone has to go into a destroyer. However there is a possibility of leak and the whole room smelling of ozone. Likewise if the operation theatre is being sterilised with ozone, for the staff to go in and out during the process involves breathing of ozone which is not desirable.
IAOS ozone protection masks with activated charcoal, is a patent pending innovation, where an airtight mask is used and the inhalation is through a chamber filled with activated charcoal. This assembly is highly recommended with all ozone procedures for the therapist and staff.
Ozone destroyers are needed for all exiting ozone gas so as to not diffuse in air and irritate our pulmonary or nasal mucosa. Stainless steel is the best ozone compatible material and connecting this to exiting ozone ensures safety for therapist assistant and patient.

These diffusers are compatible with IAOS silicone tubes and will last for many many years. Diffusers can be autoclaved, washed and sterilised. It is recommended that the practitioner uses different diffusers for ozonating oils and water. Like wise it is also recommended that the practitioner keeps separate sets for OPD use, one for operation theatre and a couple spares. If the stones become clogged due to repeated use, just boiling them in water and then attaching the open end to a suction machine will clear all clogs and it will start working like new. Major autohaemotherapy is the procedure where 50 ml of patients blood is drawn, and perfused with 50 to 60 ml of 70 micrograms percent ozone. This bubbling diffused ozone makes the blood cherry red. The ozonated blood is now retransfused back to the patient. There are a wide set of indications for MAHT procedure which are described in detail in the book and course lessons.
